n the day and age of social media, taking the plunge to delete Facebook from your computer is not an easy decision. Fortunately, the process of deleting your Facebook profile is not complicated, if you have decided you want to leave.
What is the difference between deleting and deactivating your Facebook account?
Deactivating your account means that you can reactivate it any time you want. This way you can “test the waters” of life without Facebook. When you deactivate your account, people cannot search for you or see your timeline but messages you have sent to them may remain visible. If you are sure you want to deactivate your Facebook account, here is how to do it.Process for deactivating your account
- Click at the arrow at the top left of any Facebook page
- Select 'Settings'.
- Select 'General' from the column of options on the right.
- Click 'Manage your account' and from the options that appear click 'Deactivate your account' and follow the instructions.
Permanent deletion of a Facebook account
Permanently deleting your Facebook account is not as hard as you think. Facebook does allow you a 90-day period from the moment you start the deletion process to change your mind. If during this period you log back into your account, it will be reinstated and the deletion process will be terminated. After the 90-day period has passed, you will not be able to regain access to your account.Process for deleting your Facebook account permanently
Before you delete your account, you might want to download a copy of your information, such as photos you have posted and statuses you shared. Here are the steps you have to follow:- Click at the arrow at the top left of any Facebook page
- Select 'Settings'.
- Select 'Your Facebook information' from the column of options on the right.
- Click on 'Download your Information' and choose what information you want to download.
- Wait for the file to be created – you will get a notification when it is ready.
- Once again go to 'Your Facebook Information'
- Click on 'Delete Your Account and Information', then click 'Delete My Account'.
- Enter your password, click 'Continue' and then click 'Delete'
