F
or many people,
social media sites aren't in their good books. In recent years, the likes of
Instagram,
Twitter, and
Facebook have attracted considerable criticism and quitting the platforms isn't considered weird.
If you don't think
Instagram is for you or you simply wish to get rid of it, you might wonder how to
delete an account.
Fortunately,
deleting your account only needs a few confirmations and clicks on the website. However, this isn't for the faint-hearted because doing so will
delete your
account and everything related with it permanently. Here's how to delete your account.
1. Go to the Deletion Page
Unfortunately, you can't delete your account directly from the mobile app, meaning you have to visit the
Instagram website. In addition, there's no easy way to access the
Delete Page from your profile. If you haven't logged on your browser, take the time to enter your password and username before you click the Log in button.
In case you've forgotten the username-password combination, click the "Forgot" button and reset the
password using the provided instructions.
2. Select a Cause for Leaving
Choose the reason for deleting your account from the drop-down menu. Choose whichever suits your situation and re-enter your password once you're done.
3. Delete the Account
You're almost done. Beware that there's no way to return or use a similar username once you've deleted the account. Once you've decided that you wish to proceed, click the button for permanently delete my account. If you wish to delete a different account, you'll have to log in again and replicate the process.
For security purposes,
Instagram can't delete on your behalf. You'll have to do so yourself. Once you get through the confirmation phase, you don't need to do anything else. The
social site will delete your account forever.
