o you’re ready to go touring Europe this summer? You have all your gear and supplies packed, but wait a minute. What will you use to get around the continent itself? Though many options are available, the most cost effective route without sacrificing the quality of the trip itself would be to rent a campervan.
Europe is full of popular destination spots, and it can quickly become expensive to vacation and sight-see. Hotels can be 100 euro a night and up, not to mention taxi or other transportation costs. On top of that, you still have to pay for food and any activities or souvenirs you might pick up along the way. At this rate you’re looking at spending somewhere around 1500-2000 euro a week most likely.
Renting a campervan is significantly cheaper, with most going for around 60-80 euro per day. We found the cheapest country in Europe to rent one is in Germany. From there, you have a host of campgrounds to choose from all over the continent. Most of these are between 10 and 15 euro per night. Adding in food, fuel, and activity costs, it ends up being in the range of 500-1000 euro per week.
Essentially, renting a campervan can cut your trip costs in half. The best part is, you get an even more adventurous experience because you won’t be in a typical hotel setting. Also, you get to be the captain of your own ship so to speak. You’re free to travel where you want, when you want. Freedom like that can be quite handy if you want to explore longer in a particular area, whereas tour groups move at a different pace, and staying in a hotel longer becomes quite expensive. So basically, taking our advice and renting a campervan will save you half of what you would otherwise spend for a comparable trip, or you could just go for twice as long as a comparable trip and pay the same price. Either way, it sounds like a winner in our book.
