E ven in the days of social media, you would be amazed to find some secret destinations for a family ski holiday. Europe has a great number of legendary ski resorts, frequented by thousands of ski lovers every year. Yet, there remain a few other similarly great places, not quite under the same spotlights. Below, we discuss some of those lesser-known places in our secret guide for family ski holidays.

Champoluc, Italy

Located within an hour-long drive from Turin, Champoluc is often an overlooked area for the skiing community. While they keep themselves busy in neighboring Alagna and Gressoney, you can enjoy a 180km of groomed runs in Champoluc with your family. It is a cozy little town too, with coffees for as little as 1 euro.

Hochkoenig, Austria

Despite being the highest mountain in the Berchtesgaden Alps, Hochkoenig managed to remain an authentic ski destination in Austria. Between the charming Maria Alm to Mulhbach, lies 120km of ski terrain, including a romp over five summits. The cozy ski huts are wonderful too, with plenty of local delicacies.

Pralognan-la-Vanoise, France

Hiding under the 3,855-meter Grand Casse, Pralognan is a historic village in the Savoie area of the French Alps. In addition to a 26km ski slope with 12 lifts, the village offers a mesmerizing look into its rich mountain culture. Despite providing a venue in the 1992 Winter Olympic, the slopes remain an attractive proposition for a family ski holiday.

Val d’Anniviers, Switzerland

Val d’Anniviers is located between the legendary Zermatt and Verbier, and a magnificent destination to get away from the crowd. It has five almost untouched resorts and a 100 km long icy heaven for skiers. It also has some beautiful caves and caverns to play hide and seek, if you please.
