T here are a variety of job interview questions that you might come across when you get a call to attend an interview for a job that you had applied. The interviewer asks the questions to gauge the interviewee's suitability for the role. The interviewer also wants to know how fast you think, as well as the quality of your decisions. In addition, the employer also wants to know if you'll be problematic as an employee and if you can represent the company well. The following are a set of questions that you might encounter during your interview

1. The classic questions

These types of questions are solely geared towards the job. The questions are the starter to the interview, and all you need is to tell a story about yourself, regarding your experience. Examples of the questions are: - Why do you think that you're the right fit for this job? - What do you think you'll be doing in five years? - Have you worked in a team before? - Why do you want to work for this company? - Do you have any questions?

2. Behavioral questions

The interviewer wants to know how well you can handle situations, how quickly you can solve a problem and most important if you are going to be a liability or an asset to the company. The employer also wants to see how honest you are. Some of the questions might be; - Have you ever disagreed with your boss before? How did you do the disagreement? - Have you ever dealt with an erratic customer before? How did you manage to stay composed? - Tell me about the time that you had to help the company cut costs. What procedures did you implement? - What is your biggest weakness?

3. Brain teaser

Life does not always turn out to be what we expect it to be. The employer wants to know if you can think and make decisions should a stressful situation arise. Unless it's a life and death scenario, no employer wants an employee who will freeze up with fear, should a situation that is out of the norm occur. Most technical candidates e.g., programers or bankers must take a skill test. The teasers show if you have the right skill set for the job. Some types of teasers may be; - Writing short a code for programers - Doing aptitude tests - Creating spreadsheets - Answering general knowledge questions like when Big Ben was built. The person conducting the interview wants you to tell as short story about yourself, that matches the position. Ponder on all the questions before giving an answer. Demonstrate to the person interviewing you that there are benefits of hiring you but do not be pompous. Find a balance between marketing yourself and tooting your horn, because it can be off-putting. Before the interview day, spend time researching about the company as you might also encounter a few questions regarding the organization. Find out who the Board of Directors are, what the company sells, how many branches the company has, etc. Remember that acing the questions is not all that the interviewer may need to determine if you're the right fit for the company. Aside from expecting the correct answers for the job interview questions, you must be well groomed, dressed formally, and your attitude and mannerisms will also speak volumes. [Photo: Helplavoro.it]
