he most common window treatments used in the homes are the blinds and the window shades. Both of them have the function to block out light and to keep your privacy, but there is a difference between them. Window blinds have slats that can be tilted to control light; on the other side window shades don't have slats that can be tilted to control light, but you can choose some special materials that filter light or darken room so that you can decide how much light you want.
There are different kinds of blinds according to their style and their type to suit the furniture of your home. The style of the blinds can be plain, patterned, floral, spots and stripes. The blinds can be divided in several types:
• vertical blinds, which are less likely to collect dust for their vertical position and they are available in different materials: plastic, wood and PVC
• roller blinds are more fashionable, but they can be used also for kitchen and for bathroom, as they can be adapted to any kind of window
• Roman blinds are used to block out sunlight and unlike the other kinds of blinds, they have no protection against high temperatures or moisture, so it's better not to put them in the bathroom
•Venetian blinds are formed by horizontal slats, one above another. These kind of blinds are made of metal or plastic and they have wooden slats in some cases. Normally the slat width is between 16 and 120 mm.
The blinds can be made of different kind of materials: the most used are vinyl, polyester, PVC, aluminium. These are very cheap materials that have great resistance against the high temperature and the moisture. The main function of the blinds is to block the excessive heat during the summer and they can keep heat during the cold season. In particular all kinds of blinds can reduce light according to different degrees, depending of their design. The blinds are very important to keep your own privacy, especially if they are installed in a home situated on a low floor.
