I nternational Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8th. Its roots go back to 1908, when a women’s march demanding better working conditions and voting rights was held in New York City. Since then, March 8th is dedicated to celebrating women’s achievements and everyone, men and women, are encouraged to participate. The campaign theme for this year’s celebration is #BalanceForBetter and its purpose is to eliminate gender bias in all aspects of today’s society and especially the workplace.

Join in on the celebration

So, this year, why don’t you join in on the festivities and strive towards a more gender balanced world? If you can’t attend any of the organized events in your area, there are still ways to actively get involved by organizing an activity of your own at the office. To this goal, you can browse for resources at https://www.internationalwomensday.com/, where you can also order an event pack with posters, lapel pins, wristbands and other freebies for your guests.

Group activities for the office

There are plenty of fun ways to get your co-workers involved in the festivities for International Women’s Day. If you want some inspiration, here are some things you could try.
  • Separate your colleagues into groups and have them come up with actions they can take to help accelerate gender parity in the workplace.
  • Submit #BalanceforBetter images on social media to show your commitment to helping build a more gender-balanced world and encourage others to take action too.
  • Bring your female coworkers together to learn from each other and share their stories of breaking the glass ceiling.
  • Organize a presentation to raise awareness about unconscious bias amongst your coworkers.
Most importantly, International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate women’s achievements, so don’t forget to have fun!
