Celebrity Gossip: Who will open the MTV VMAs this year?

  The Internet is an incredible place to find out all the latest celebrity gossip and there is a rumour in particular that is getting many people out there excited, involving Lady Gaga and Britney Spears. The MTV Video Music Awards will be taking place in the United States on the 28th of August and, if you love pop music more than anything else, you should be very excited because, as always the show will feature many great performances. But who will be opening the show?Well, if rumours are to be believed (and we all know they can't always be trusted), producers of the show are currently talking about whether it should be Lady Gaga or Britney Spears since they both will have new singles out very soon, or so rumours say. Lady Gaga released her latest pop album 'ARTPOP' (she also released a jazz album with Tony Bennett in 2014, 'Cheek To Cheek') in November 2013 and, although it didn't sell as much as expected, it was still a moderate success reaching #1 in the UK and USA and gave us some great singles like 'Applause' and 'Do What U Want'. On the other hand, Britney Spears, who has had her own residency in Las Vegas for the last three years, hasn't released a new album since 2013 herself, titled 'Britney Jean', which was met with very little success although it gave us the now classic 'Work Bitch' single. Apparently, Britney has been recording songs for a while now and, as well as a new single, a new album should be ready to be released in the coming months. If the rumours about the two popstars having singles ready are to be believed, it would make perfect sense for one of the two to open the MTV Video Music Awards this year since they are two of the artists who have given the awards ceremony the most attention over the last couple of decades. Everyone remembers Britney performing a remix of 'Oops!... I Did It Again' during the awards in 2000 wearing a transparent bodysuit and, of course, her sexy performance of 'I'm A Slave 4 U' featuring a snake just one year later. Lady Gaga also managed to make millions of people tune in when she performed her hit 'Paparazzi' at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009, when she pretended to have hanged herself. Her performance of 'Yoü And I' at the 2011 awards also was a very talked about moment since she performed it as her male alterego Joe Calderone. However, new singles by Britney and Gaga haven't been confirmed yet which is why we will have to wait a little bit longer before we find out whether they will be coming out in time for the awards show. Another popstar who is rumoured to be dropping a new single soon is Katy Perry who, despite not having any memorable performance at the MTV Video Music Awards yet, might surprise everybody and be asked to open the show.
