Managed service providers, as the name would suggest, are a form of outsourcing in which different basic functions, responsibilities, or actions within the IT world are done by another company to make your company more efficient and to actually cut down on your overall budget. Generally a contract is entered into, the company agrees to take on any of your functions that fall under certain umbrellas for a period of time, and payment is made to ensure that this arrangement continues.
The most common of these is IT support, making sure that servers, websites, and various systems all work. Some companies will also answer e-mails and queries after hours to ensure that customers are getting the best services possible.
Why You Need Them
Generally these services are cheaper than doing it in house, they are more efficient because that is all they do, things don't tend to get forgotten, and most importantly, you can take stress of of yourself or your employees. If you feel overwhelmed by all of the different basic components of the services that you provide, having another company do the work that isn't particularly difficult or sensitive can allow you to get through more work and serve clients better.
