The Best Places to Go to See the Northern Lights

T he Northern Lights are one of the most fascinating phenomena in the world. It is a solar activity visible in some parts of northern Europe. Also known as the Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights are visible in several parts of the planet. The phenomenon occurs in certain periods of the year but it is difficult to predict. However, we can say that ordinarily the best months for viewing are October to March. The best places to go to see the Northern Lights are close to the North Pole but since that may not be possible for many, you need to plan your trip to northern Norway. Another great place to admire this amazing phenomenon is the Abisko Park in Sweden because of its location. It seems it has a special microclimate with less precipitation than any other location on the planet and it is in the so called Aurora zone. Iceland is also a very good location to enjoy the Northern Lights even though sometimes the presence of clouds can be a problem. In the north of Russia the Aurora is visible but the best areas can be too difficult for most tourists to reach. If you want to see the Lights from America, go to the northern states such as Alaska or to Canada where there are plenty of places such as Yellowknife or Whitehorse, in the Canadian Yukon.
