You’ve decided that you want to freshen up your house, give it a new lick of life. Windows are usually one of the first places people look to. The window is one of the focal points of a house. So, making sure these are new and shiny are key. Here are some tips on how to replace your windows at home.
Removing the Old Window
Figure out if you need to replace the pane, or the entire window. Once you know this, you can start work. If it is just the pane, you might be better off contacting a contractor to replace the pane for you. However, if you are changing the whole window, you are going to need one or two tools. The main tool is a crowbar. Use the crowbar to get in and behind the old frame and remove it. Continue until you can completely take the old window out.
Installing the New Windows
You have removed the old windows, made any adjustments to the holes for the new windows and are ready to get the new ones fitted… Grab your friend/family member and get to work. One person (or more), should hold the new window from outside working to line it up with the frame. The other will be inside with screws. It may take a bit of tinkering, but after you are used to the process, you will fly through the rest.
Hire a Professional
There are far too many people out there that think they can do the job. However, when it comes to it, they break things, cause problems and can cause more work to be needed. Rather than getting yourself into this and having to call someone in, call them in from the beginning. The professional will know exactly what to do, be able to get the old window out straight away and a new one in pretty soon after.
